Self-build FarmhouseThe Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is well protected against unnecessary development; however, development is possible if sensitive and proven to be essential. Our Client owns a small holding and provides produce to Wye Farmers Market. Ashford Borough Council agreed that he needed to live on the land, and that his current temporary cabin could be replaced with a traditional brick and flint cottage. We have helped modify the original design into an ultra-efficient house, with Passivhaus levels of insulation, glazing and airtightness. This is a self-build, therefore the details had to be buildable, and affordable. We are looking forward to proving that excellent thermal performance can be achieved in a traditional cottage with traditional materials.
